Hi everyone.
I´m thinking about buying a new system.
What is the better deal for Photoshop?
AMD XP2600+ or XP3000+
or
Pentium 4 2,6GHz

Thanx

Daniel

And probably much lower prices than the Intel. I’d go for the XP3000.

From what I’ve seen, AMD is on par with Intel for Photoshop – slightly faster for a few operations, slightly slower for a few filters. the 3000 is faster than everything except the latest 3+ GHz P4 w/ the 800 MHz Bus and the faster RAM.

Consider going dual processor, and get as much RAM as you can – 2 GB or more if you can. For Photoshop, amount of RAM matters more than RAM speed in the overall peformance of the application – all other things being equal.

Not sure what you mean exactly. AMD are *always* a "better deal" in terms of price/performance.

Exactly, system memory is key. I’ve got a Athlon XP 2500+, and a 1024Mb DDR 3700 OCZ Ram. Can’t complain a bit. 🙂

I was skeptical of AMD after being an Intel guy for a long time, but my system screems… XP2100. The only annoyance is the extra fan noise.

In the writings of Daniel Schneider, the <borqte$g4j$00$ online.com> scrolls contained these prophetic words:

Have a look at this review and make your own judgements, may be pricey but it’s a interesting read all the same:

Watch the wrap.

Also you may want to check out www.TomsHardware.com as they often do CPU/hardware reviews on a wide range of kit.

My POV is build your own then you know what’s in the box, and how to fix it if it goes wrong. Saves waiting for tech support ;o) You may not save much (if any) but you will normally get a better deal for you money than going to a third party.
