Hello All,
If any of you have the time, and would be so kind:
I would appreciate some feedback about my site please.
http://www.davin-photography.com
e.g. site improvements etc.
I am using dial-up at this stage – so it should be user friendly for anyone with 56k dial-up or above.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Davin

Your front page is too big (actually I hate having to go to a page to just ‘enter’ to another page), If you’ve just GOT to have one, you shouldn’t have to scroll to reach
the enter button. The copyright disclaimer is 1) too
damn big and 2) contains redundent uses of your name.
Why post the site URL on the site? You’re already there. After entering your site your pages are too wide even
on my 19" monitor (1024×768) you have to scroll side to side. Why have an example of one of your sale pictures
on the main page? It should be on the pricing page.
Is this really necessary? Do you expect to attract a lot of really stupid people?
"There will be no yellow lines or writing on the photo – these are just indications of where things are located." Do you really need the slide image/logo around
EVERTHING? I’m all for protecting one’s work but
if you’re going to PLASTER your URL across every
image at least make them larger.

Had to put the disclaimer somewhere – why not the first page – guess it worked – you saw it.

The copyright disclaimer was written for me by a solicitor – sometime ago – so guess it stays as is.

the site was designed at 1024 x 768 – not sure why it would scroll??? (website design – is still rather new to me at this stage)

Too me, it had nothing to do with pricing.

No – but stating the obivous never really hurt – you are all photographers/designers etc
– skilled people – not everyone using the net is that lucky.

Do you really need the slide image/logo around
EVERTHING? I’m all for protecting one’s work but

I have put alot of work into my work – both site and photos – so I would like to attempt to protect it/them.

You have already stated that I have made my pages too big.. see above..
If I make my images bigger – then the pages will need to be larger and then scroll more??

Way too loud! You should be selling cars!
Overloaded and fuzzy, you images are barely visible in all these frames, text, URLs and watermarks.
Why jump at your visitors and explain what they’ll get when they buy from you?
No thanks, I’m just looking, you know the feeling?
Maybe you should show some images first and then inform them they are for sale.
You don’t have enough images IMHO to run a commercial site. I would remove the B&W gallery.
OK, something sweet for dessert :Very nice panoramas!

Davin…

Hi…

First of all there are a few few interesting features about the site… the use of the slides for instance… However, there’s lots wrong and the list is pretty extensive…. Just a few….

1/ Takes too long to load

2/ The film strip is wrong… there are 8 sprockets to a gate 🙂 a lot of people make this mistake and the simplest way to get it right is just scan a strip of film on a flatbed and use that as your reference….

3/ Text way too large…

4/ No focus point….

The inside pages… well…

5/ Get rid of the background – it’s disturbing…

6/ Don’t have your thumbnails inside the mount device…. you’re losing real (screen) estate…. apart from creating further distractions….

7/ etc. etc. etc.

I suggest you go to some photographic/photographers’ sites and take a look…. get some ideas… see what others are doing and then define your own style….

Al the above meant positively….

Cheers…

JJ

PS: If the slide mounts shown are actual mounts that you use…. would suggest you look into their redesign as well….

It didn’t ‘work’ it’s huge and annoying and doesn’t need to be SHOUTING from the middle of the page.

The copyright disclaimer was written for me by a solicitor – sometime ago – so guess it stays as is.

<shrug> sounds like he knew nothing about copyrights.

It’s not, at 1024 every page had to be side scrolled.

"This is what you get when you buy one of my pictures" has nothing to do with pricing? Rethink that idea.

Is this really necessary? Do you expect to attract a lot of really stupid people?
"There will be no yellow lines or writing on the photo – these are just indications of where things are located."

No – but stating the obivous never really hurt – you are all photographers/designers etc

It hurts if you want to appear professional.

Not if you lose the unneccessary slide frame from around everything and design the site better.

The Good:
I liked many of your photographs.
The slide frame is cute.

The Bad
The size of everything but the photos is too big. I had to scroll horizontally, even at 1024, which means that something like 3/4 of your visitors will have to scroll.
Your navigation is poor. The photos pages open a new window, which is considered poor design, and the only way to get back to the main page is to close that window.

The Wrong
You spelled copyright as copywrite in at least one place. The proper format for the copyright notice is the circle-c symbol followed by the year and your name. Anything else is just text and may be ignored by the courts.

agreement. everything is too big. Wanna leave right when I see the first page.

Wow! That copyright notice is really scary! Yes it is! SCREW this site… let’s leave. While hassle with something so scary?

And your 1024 x whatever size did not factor into account people’s web browsers admistrative space use.
