Hi all,
I have Photoshop CS3,unfortunatley my computer crashed, photoshop was still on my system and running o.k. but has somehow put itself back to every default setting
The problem is all my personal preferences have disappeared, i.e. my shortcuts, coloured menus and screen layout etc.

The question is, were do I find my personal preference folder/files? and how do I tell Photoshop were it is?

Thank you
josel

Josel,

The preferences file is updated, saved and closed when PS is shutdown properly.

When crashed, this file can be corrupted, which obviously is the case since your PS reverted o factory defaults.

There’s nothing yo can do to retrieve it. For the future keep backups of that file. I do that regularly, and maintain a recent set, in case I save an already corrupted one.

The file in question is:

C:\Documents And Settings\[YOU]\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop CS3\Photoshop CS3 Settings.psp

I back-up the entire Photoshop CS3 folder, so I got some other stuff backed up also.

Remember: when you upgrade to a newer version, make a separate back-up regime, because I don’t think these .psp files are version agnostic.

It’s in a hidden folder. You’ll have to check "Show hidden files and folders" in Folder Options View tab.
