Something happened to my brush size

Something happened to my brush size in Photoshop 7 and CS3, all of a sudden the brush circle when on a image changed to cross hairs and when I change the size of the brush the numbers on the brush pallet changes but the brush circle doesn’t it just stays cross hairs
