Layers tab? you mean multi-layer document?
You can add layer yourself or use move tool to drag a unlocked layer from another image to your image or copy layers in other images to your image.
I have figured out how to create a new layer. That’s easy. But how do you get an image into that layer? I’ve tried cut and paste, I’ve tried dragging – none of these work.
I’m looking for something that says, "Here’s how you add an image to a layer." But I don’t see anything like that.
Open this image in Photoshop first, ctrl+a to select this layer and ctrl + c copy it, then paste it in your image
And you can use File > Place to place the image to your image.
Note that you have to have a layer selected to add anything to it. Do this by clicking on that layer, so it is highlighted in the layers palette.
Try holding SHIFT key while dragging to make sure the content is centred.
when you paste anything>> it automatically creates another layer above the selected layer or background
you can drag from open document to another or use cut and paste for putting all or parts of an image onto a layer
you can click the little paper at bottom to create an empty layer and use fill to make a solid color layer, put a gradient, make a shape on, etc.
Thanks everyone. I won’t be able to experiment with these suggestions today (just got to my computer at 11:00 p.m.!). Will have to try tomorrow but I am anxious to figure this out. (Ping, this morning before work I quickly tried your suggestions. It seemed to work. I had tried many of the ‘layers’ drop down file features. It didn’t occur to me that ‘place’ would be under ‘file’!)
