Using Vista 64-bit, installed PS CS4 the other day. I have been using the 64 bit version fine with no problems. However, I downloaded a plugin that only works in the 32-bit version, so I tried to launch the 32-bit version from the start menu, and the splash screen comes up for a few seconds, then an error message saying "Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working". The splash screen is stuck on "Building TWAIN menu items…" This also happens when I try to start the program from the photoshop.exe in Program Files (x86) folder. Any ideas? Thanks!

Any TWAIN hardware on your system? Scanners? Special camera drivers? Memory card slots or PictBridge via a printer? Sounds like a specific component is only rooted with 64bit drivers and thus the 32bit version cannot handle it…
