Running the latest driver? That’s the first advice you’ll get but that may not help. There are a couple of registry toggles you can to turn on/off GPU features. Here’s a link.

You’ll find these registry toggles disscussed in some forum threads if you do a search.

With 256MB of RAM on your card, you’ll be limited in what acceleration features you’ll get as well as the number of open files you can run accelerated. See this Adobe Tech Note which has some details on troubleshooting that may or may not help you:

Even if you do get OpenGL running with your card, you’ll probably want to upgrade to one with more onboard memory. I’m still trying to home in on what cards offer a good price/performance specifically for Photoshop CS4 acceleration.

The ATI X800 does not support Shader model 3.0. PS CS4 requires shader model 3.0.
