No Hardness option in "define brush presets" phtoshop CS4

When I define a new brush from selection (text or image) I do not have the Hardness option (it is Greyed).
I used to have it with CS3.
can I have it back?

I’m not sure what you are saying. Selection based brushes never had such a behavior, as far as I can remember, softness only applies to the procedural brushes.
