Looks like an hdr image to me.

This effect is the biggest cliché of 2008.

Yeah, but you gotta admit it’s among the coolest of any clichés to come along, eh? I never seem to tire of looking at good HDRI galleries.

I’d have to agree. It looks to me like a work by a talented photographer blessed with great natural light or the skilled use of reflectors. All of those matter more than Photoshop; the less one needs to use Photoshop, the better (from a photographic point of view).

I beg to differ. To me it looks not like a HDR, but a complete Photoshop compositing job.

Clearly the havanictym figurine effect was invoked.

This effect is the biggest cliché of 2008.

What’s cliched about it?

Just curious.

What’s cliched about it?

Lots of people are doing it. When it was new it was unusual.

It could be done using Photomatix.

There is a Russell Brown tut on how to fake the HDR look.

Thanks John. i wish i could say i was proficient with photomatix, but i still find myself trying to guess what result the various slider moves will deliver. i think it can give certain images a totally different feel that i find appealing sometimes.

I will check out your link to hopefully learn a better way to work with the program.

But, but, but…seems as though a lot more than HDR is involved. Saturation and brightness are muted while intricate detail is not only preserved but enhanced. There is a very pleasing overall softness and exposure uniformity.
