Photoshop CS3 Layer Issue

I imported a picture from bridge. Then in Photoshop I create new layer -> mode is Sceen, fill with black. When I use the line tool it creates a new layer and does not use the Screen layer I made. Any Idea what I’m doing wrong?

Is the line tool set to create a shape layer, or set to create pixels?

Take a look at the documentation for the line and other shape tools.
