Illegal operation message

Something is corrupted in my setup. I am now getting an "Illegal operation…Photoshop will be shut down" message on opening, but it still opens files and operates. But closing the error box shuts it down immediately. I have reinstalled it but it doesn’t help. I have Photoshop 7 running on Windows98SE.

Do step 4 Re-create the Photoshop preferences file. If that doesn’t help, do step 6, Set a PostScript printer as the default. Instructions for each are in the KB article.
