Picture opens darker in PhotoShop6 than the original one.

I have problems opening pictures in PS6 since approximately 1 month now. They always open darker and if I make corrections on these pictures (like using the clone stamp) for example, when I re-open these pictures with another program, I can see all the clone spots on the picture. It never used to do that before and I use PS6 a lot to correct pictures. I am using Windows XP with SP2 and I have 6.5 gigs of RAM. Please help.
