BRUSH QUIT when working with layer masks and Actions

Help!!! I am working in photoshop and when working with layer masks and actions, my brushes are not working.. can anyone help me. They were working one minute and stopped the next.

I have already uninstalled photoshop and reinstalled it (removing all the preferences). Still not working!!!

Uninstalling Photoshop does nothing at all to the Preferences. See the FAQs or Help to learn how to reset the Prefs.

What exactly are you doing? It’s kind of vague.
