Photo blending problems

I have five photos that I have on one canvas and I basically need to blend them together (Im using CS2)so that you cant see the hard edges between them all, so that it just becomes one big picture. Layer masking each layer and then using the gradient tool is taking forever, and the result is very poor. And, to be honest I dont really understand this concept completly. Have tried a few tutorials, but can find nothing that deals with edge blending. Unless Im looking for the wrong thing of course!!

Please can someone help.
