I want to create an Action that will begin with an image of any random aspect ratio and create an image of 3:2 aspect ratio by increasing the canvas size in the appropriate direction. I want to produce an image that has the entire, undistorted original flanked by blank areas on the right and left (or top and bottom). The idea here is that I have a lot of photo scans of random aspect ratios and I want to get 4" x 6" prints made that contain all of the original image. Can anyone explain how to create such an action or point me to a tutorial? I’m using CS3 Extended.

This sounds to sort of thing that would need a script to do it properly. Try adobe.photoshop.scripting or even better in the Adobeforums PS scripting forum at http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?13@@.3bbf2765

Thanks TWK! I posted to the Adobe Scripts forum as you suggested and was directed to a public script that does exactly what I want. I already have it installed into my CS3 Scripts menu and it’s working fine. If interested, it’s Rags Gardner’s Script which can be downloade here:
