How to restore version sets?

I’ve just re-installed Adobe PSE 3.01 and it doesn’t seem to automatically recognise that files named xyz_edited-1 should be part of a version set with the original xyz file. As I have thousands of files with edited versions is there any way to get PSE to automatically scan the folders and restore the version set assignments? I can do it manually but that will take years!
