I’m running XP and use the category view for my control panel. I jus purchased Elements 4.0 and want to uninstall Elements 2.0 that cam bundled with my camera. The problem is after uninstalling 2.0 I loos most of my icons in the category view of my control panel….they’r still there in classic view but that’s not what i use. I have trie uninstalling 2.0 both before and after installing 4.0 but have th problem no matter which way i try it…i have to do a system restore t get my icons back on category view. Just to highlight that i believ this is an Adobe Elements issue i have Elements 2.0 on both my desk to computer and my lap top and the exact same problem happens on BOT computers when i uninstall. Any help you guys could give me would b great….i know i do not HAVE to uninstall 2.0 but I’m anal abou keeping my computer clean and keeping a 150MB program on my compute that i would never use would drive me crazy. Thanks, Mar

What specific Icons are being removed or hidden? Are the programs still available and functional in your Start menu?

The icons that disappear in category view are the ones on the bottom under "or pick a Control Panel icon". For instance…click start…control panel…make sure your in category view……network and internet connections…look towards the bottom and you’ll see things like "internet options", "network connections", "network setup wizard", and "windows firewall" those all disappear after uninstalling elements 2.0.

Interesting. I don’t know what Elements could have done. It did not do it on mine, but I did remove 2.0 some time ago when I upgraded to 3.0. As I recall I did it after I installed 3.0.

Do you mean that they are "loose" or do you lose them?

Tried it both ways.uninstalling 2 first…installing 4…did a system restore so 2 was back…then installed 4 before uninstalling 2…same problem either way. And don’t forget i did this on both my desktop and laptop with the same outcome. Of course Adobe customer service won’t help because they don’t offer support for 2 anymore and it was bundled software that came with my camera.

Does anyone know any other forums that i could seek help?

You might want to try annexcafe.user2user. They have a number of very knowledgeable people there who may know.

Pick up a copy of Tweak UI for you OS. Here is one for WinXP: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppow ertoys.mspx Install the program, open it then scroll down to the bottom to repair. Here you can rebuild the Explorer icons, but be aware custom icons may be lost.

Thanks for trying Jimmy but that didn’t work for me either. The icon didn’t come back in catagory view after i repaired icons. I thought fo sure that would fix it.

Could all of this have something to do with Adobe Gamma being remove with Elements 2? Elements 2 installed the Adobe Gamma icon under th Apperance and Themes heading in control panel….and is uninstalle with 2 also…..so when it removes the icon for Gamma could it be als removing the other icons? Is Adobe Gamma not included with Elements 4

It is possible. According to MS Support Article Q292463, "NOTE: There is no method for creating a new category or adding a task to a category." You have indicated the PSE2 Gamma showed up in the Appearance and Themes category, which according to this article should not have happened. I have Gamma, Pen Tools, QuickTime, Java, and a few others that appear in the Classic View, but are not available in the category view. Seems your registry is indeed corrupt.

Adobe Gamma is included with PSE4.
