"Save as.." dialog instead of just a save

When I have modified a jpeg in PS Elements 3.0.1 and just wants to save it, I press ctrl-S or do file/Save. But instead of just saving the file with the same jpeg options as the original had, I get a "Save as…" dialog and after that the jpeg options dialog. This is getting rather irritating if you’re editing a lot of files.

Anyone else who has this problem or maybe a fix for it?

Paddan,

Could the origial file be marked as Read Only by chance? After you get the "Save As", are you able to save the file with the SAME name?

Hi there.

You do know that every time you save a compressed Jpeg after making modifications, you lose more of the original information from the file.

It does not take very many saves for the damage to become visible, if there is big amount of compression being used, and the damage is irreversible.

Paddan,

Looks like I spoke too soon in my previous post. My PSE 3 does the same and the file is not set as Read Only. It even does it when I try saving a TIFF file. So, I withdraw my misinformed earlier post and hope someone can enlighten both of us.

Sorry about the three posts–the Google service had problems.

Thank you very much but I’m fully aware of this, but I only edit the jpeg once since it comes from a raw original….
