PSE Editor extremely slow

I have a pretty fast computer 2.8GHz Intel, 1GB RAM

PSE Organizer loads pretty fast. If I edit in Photoshop, it takes Photoshop around 15-20 sec max to open the file. If I edit in PhotoShop Elements then it takes the editor anywhere from 1.5-2 min to open the file. It seems that the computer freezes for around 30 sec but then continues opening the file.

Is this normal at all? There were a lot of threads complaining about PSE Editor slow, but mine seems excessive specially when compared to Photoshop which is loading fairly rapidly.

This is definitely not normal.
Try a global prefs reset:
Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<your login>\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements [replacing <your login> appropriately] and rename the folder "3.0" to "3.old".
