save as crash

I’m using Photoshop CS3 on a Windows XP platform. Everything has operated perfectly for 3 months and now if I try to ‘save as’ the save as window pops up for a split second and then disappears. After that, Photoshop becomes inoperable although it is still visible and when I force quit, the Task Manager still says that it is running. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice with the same issue reoccurring. Please help.

Have you deleted your preferences as per the Forum FAQs FAQ#2?

A re-install doesn’t replace the preference file.

I did delete my prefs and that was unsuccessful. I did however hit escape after it froze, and I was able to ‘save as’ again.
