I have an image that consists of black, white, and many shades of gray pixels on a white background.

I would like to reverse or recolor the foreground and background pixels so that the image will display as a white image on a dark or transparent background.

Creating the transparent background has been a problem due to the gray (neither black nor white) pixels.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to do this? The image as a .jpg is at the top of this page: <http://www.jeffreyscreek.com>

Thanks very much!

Save as a grayscale tiff, place that in a layout application that can colorize grayscales, then colorize the picture to white, and put the background color, whatever it is, in the same box.

Naturally this will only work for placing the image on a flat color, not another photograph.

It would help to know what other software you have, and the final use of this image…

Linda,

The phrase:

I would like to reverse or recolor the foreground and background pixels so that the image will display as a white image on a dark or transparent background.

Is unclear, since we don’t know what’s foreground and background.

Here’s a simple exercise though that may help. Convert the image to RGB. Open the levels dialog, and do Auto Levels, then slide the right pointer a bit to the left to drop out the gray.

Now you have white background and black graphic. Ctrl-I inverts the image so you have black background and white graphic.

If you want to add a color, say that green that’s used, add a solid color adjustment layer and set the blend mode of that layer to Screen. That will turn everything that’s black (from the inverting) to the new green.

If you meant something else, please elaborate.

I didn’t get the green right because I was just screwing around but here’s two examples that took less than 2 minutes.
