We in need of a new color printer for our 4-man graphic design department. It will be used mostly for color proofs (doesn’t have to be pinpoint accurate, just relative), inhouse fliers, occasional business cards, etc. It needs to be a wide-format printer as well, because the majority of our color proofs will need to be printed on 11×17 paper. It must work for Macs (running OS9.2) and have the option for network connectivilty.
Our last printer the HPdesignJet 2600N was a disaster. It was hard to feed paper into. The duplex unit broke on day 2. It jammed consistently. Printer shifting was so bad it was almost impossible to print business cards. And finally, a factory defect killed the thing.
Ideally, we’d like to spend less that $1500. What I’m looking for is a sturdy, trustworthy printer that will last.
