I have an image that I would like to fade out the left side of. For instance, if the image is 8 inches wide, I am trying to have the last inch of the image on the left side fade off to completely transparent. Is this possible?

Yes, very easily. You make a Layer Mask and apply a Black to white gradient to it. Look up Layer Mask in Help and on the web. It is something you MUST learn about. There are many tutorials on the internet.

Thanks! I’m somewhat new to Photoshop. I’ll check it out!

Here’s a simple tutorial. Make sure to change Background into a Layer to get transparency, rather than a white background. To do that double-click on Backgrounds in the Layers palette.

Layer masks are incredibly useful once you get the hang of using them.

Be sure to work on a copy of the original file so you don’t eff up your original.
