I have a large TIFF file that cannot be opened by Photoshop Elements
3.0. It was generated by a panoramic stitching program, and several of
these TIFFs are composited for the final panoramic. The file size of the component TIFF is 64 MB. The image is about 13000×9000, but only a small fraction of the pixels are specified. The error message is vague: "program error". Oddly enough, PE 3.0 is able to read and display the final panoramic with file size 500 MB. This is on a Windows XP system with 1 GB of memory.
I am able to open and display the component TIFFs on a Solaris/SPARC workstation using GIMP. The file is not corrupted.
Besides buying more memory (I’ve already ordered another 1 GB), what else can I do? How do I get more diagnostic information from PE 3.0?
