Hi, I’m trying to work out how big a file is based on the image and pixel size. I’m a couple pennies short of a dime, so thought I’d try to get some help here. By now my eyes are pin-wheeling and my head hurts. Thanks in advance, of course, for any input.

Image Size Pixels jpeg File Size
640×480 307,200
1024×768 786,432
1152×872 1,004,544
1280×960 1,228,800
1600×1200 1,920,000
2048×1536 3,145,728

To demonstrate the futility of this chart here’s the answer to the first size:

Image Size Pixels JPG File Size
640×480 307,200 between 1.281 KB
(pure white JPG at lowest
quality – Progressive)
and
500+KB (complex image at
highest quality)

There are just too many factors to consider to just "fill in the blanks." There is the degree of image complexity, the amount of, or lack of contiguous pixels of the same color, the amount of compression you apply to the image, the amount of contrast and range of light to dark…does it span the entire range from pure black to pure white?

Just delete the 3rd column and go with that!

thanks, "Peadge" for filling in the real blanks. Now I see why I couldn’t get any consistant sizes.

The idea was cool, though!
