I have the Academic Version of CS2 (v9.0.2) installed on a Windows XP Pro PC that has 4Gb of RAM and a 500Gb HDD. There are 2 user accounts on the PC. One account loads Photoshop normally (~15 seconds). The other user account takes over 4 minutes with the label "reading gradients" remaining in the start-up window for most of that time.
I un-installed the entire CS2 application apart from the Activation file and then re-installed it and applied all updates. The problem still remained with the user account that had the original loading problem. I deleted all *.psp Preferences files but again the problem continues.
Calling up the Task Manager Window (CTL+ALT+DEL) during loading shows that Photoshop is calling up over 1Gb of RAM during the application load and this does not reduce after the application has finally loaded.
