Can someone help with a quick and easy way to adjust skin tones that are red and blotchy. The colours in the rest of the photo are good as is contrast etc.

Difficult to advice without seeing the problem. Can you post an example? <http://www.pixentral.com> is good for this.

I uploaded and copied the above. Does this make sense to you? Julie

Maybe this time:

The photo is very grainy but we are not worried about that.

Unfortunately the graininess is a contributing factor to the "blotchy" effect. And the fact it was shot at 1/10th sec at f3.2 under less than ideal conditions means camera shake, lack of depth of field, and a colour shift (probably due to fluorescent lighting) have all conspired against you here.

Try adding a Hue/Saturation layer and adjust until you have the skin tones you require. If you then feel you want to restore the original colour balance to the rest of the shot, fill the layer mask with black and use a soft white brush to "paint" the adjustment back into the faces.

Have you thought about using the shot in black and white. The grain could be passed off as "artistic" then.

Hope this helps.

Chris.

If you create the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and then select the ‘Reds’ (CTRL+1) and move the Hue slider to around +30 it will help to overall skin tones (but it will do nothing for the ‘blotchiness’)

Very cool, Don.

Never tried doing something like thatΒ—I always end up having to fix stuff like that. πŸ™‚

I should give it a try sometime.

Everyone is thinking they are a band but in fact they are the Audit Group for major weapons procurement contracts.

I dunno who they are either, but I’ll bet a nickel the guy on the right (with the mullet and the t-shirt) is the drummer.

Call it an educated hunch.

Here’s my take. I sampled a "proper" skin tone from another rock band, and painted over the skins in Color mode.

Very simple:

Wrong – the drummer is second from the right. And while they are not weapons inspectors they are a pretty cool rock band from Sydney Australia called ENVY GREEN. The guy on the left is Geoff and yes he is a relick of the eighties.

Thanks guys for your help. We have use this pic in B&W and am doing a whole new shoot this weekend but as this is the only pic we have to use at the moment and I needed a colour copy this week to use. It was taken by the singers girlfriend (the big guy in the middle)on a little pocket digital.

When we ge tthe guys site up and running I will let you all know so you can have a listen.

Rob, thanks for your help in the end.
