I think I know the answer to this question, but have to ask it anyway. I have been asked to convert a greyscale photo back to its original colour mode. The original has long since disappeared, I have said this cant be done, am I right?

If the colour information has been discarded then it’s gone for ever.

If the file were a PSD or TIFF it might have the colour data in it!
