My problem is that I want to merge the following two images into one and into the position I want, however I cannot figure out how:

and also < http://www.imagehoop.com/view_image/73a921044/rebel_fleet2ba nnerone.JPG>

I have tried using Photomerge (I looked at the Photomerge tutorial, as well), but all that did is make me wait one minute and then merge the files into each other, although it only showed the latter image and had no way of the other showing up.

Could someone please tell me how I would go about merging those two images into one using Photoshop CS3(on a PC, windows XP), and being able to move the first image ({link name=this one]http://www.imagehoop.com/view_thumb/170fe2152/STW34.jpg[/link]) into the exact position on top of the second image?

You want the red thing on the photo? first select the red object using the lasso, or select- color range or whatever, and then hit the v-key for move and drag it over into your other file. be aware of size differences though, or you may end up with a tiny object on a large file if their resolutions are radically different.

When selecting the red object, do I need to be at the point where I’ve just opened Photoshop CS3? Please explain it as detailed as possible; I’m very new to using Photoshop.

With photoshop running, open both images at once, go select the red object, hit the v-key and drag it over. before you go getting crazy with a complex selection, just draw a big circle around the red with the lasso and try it. if you find success, start over and get precise for the real deal. select -color range may be able to get all the red without selecting.

Is this what you want to do?

What I did was opened Photoshop, then opened both images (in my case via new document/clipboard). I first tried moving the red icon over the group shot, but it had a white background, and the red wasn’t very even due to JPEG artifacts. So I used the DDT Vectorizer action set from forum members Mathias and Pierre, applying the Vectorize web graphic action, did some cleanup, then ran the Make path from image action. Then I changed the mode back to RGB, created a new layer, and filled the path with red on the new layer. Now I have a vector shape, in red. I moved it over your group image, scaled it and positioned it, and used Save for Web to get what you see when you click on the thumbnail above.

Thanks to both of you. I did that last night and finished with this (added black to one side to make it more interesting):

Thanks again for the help and the very fast responses!

As you may have noticed, these forums prefer real HTML

Proprietary mark-up code as used in UBB forums, et al, just doesn’t fly.
