CS3 Trying to add colour to text I have used the ‘T’ tool to highlight the text and then picked the colour from the swatch. Turned off the highlight and no change. The colour remains stubbornly black. I must be missing a step somewhere and any advice will be much appreciated.

You are working on the text layer?
Click on the T thumbnail in the layers palette to activate the text and choose your colour from the swatch on the Options bar.
Hit the "tick" to commit the changes.

that’s how in CS(2) anyway.
