I’ve tried everything I can think of.
I downloaded/installed Camera_Raw_5.2 and still can’t open any of the 2 DVDs full of images. I’m not the best with the technical side of Adobe Products. Can anyone guide me a bit?

Camera Raw 5.2 does NOT work with CS2. You need CS4.

The last version that can be used with CS2 is ACR 3.7.

If you have the latest Canon camera model, you will never be ablt to open your raw CR2 files directly in CS2.

You need to download the free, independent, stand-alone DNG Converter 5.2 and run it on your files first to convert them to DNG files. You can then take the raw DNG files and open them in ACR 3.7 hosted by CS2.

The upgrade to CS4 is a no-brainer. ACR 5.2 is light years ahead of 3.7. You’ll be losing a lot of image quality and control if you stick with CS2. CS2 will never be updated.

You should also know that there is a dedicated ACR (= Adobe Camera Raw) forum:

Thank you for all of that, and so quickly – I will try to download the DNG Converter you suggested.

And though I have Bridge – I’ve never used it. I guess I should read/do tutorials. I wouldn’t have known to look in that forum. As for Adobe Raw Forum – shows you how un-savvy I can be, I didn’t recognize that. BUt I will go there.

Thank You and Happy New Year

Ramon,

Please forgive my ignorance – I’ve converted the files to DNG. And downloaded ACR 3.7 where do I put the plug in? I’ve found the Plug ins folder – do you know where I drag and drop the plug in?

No, not in the application plug-ins folder. It goes in the File Formats folder, starting the path in your Root Level LIBRARY folder.

There are explicit, straight and strict instructions on the download page. Follow them to the letter.

Check also the FAQs of the Camera Raw forum.

If still in doubt, post over there and we’ll pick it up there.

You should have only ONE copy of the ACR plug-in, so you have to delete the old one that resides there AND any others you may have put there, such as the incompatible ACR 5.2 you mentioned early.

This screen shot shows the path for both CS2 and CS3. The red arrows go all the way to the folder for CS3, but you can see the CS2 folder right above that, so you’ll be able to figure it out.

Make sure you quit Photoshop and Bridge before installing that plug-in. Once it’s in place, re-launch the applications.

Steven,

If you have further questions about ACR, raw, DNG or similar, I recommend that you ask in the ACR Forum RamΓ³n provided the link to. That’s where those pros hang out.

Thanks.
