I use CS4 and was wondering for web work what should I have checked din here?

Working CYMK is the default also looks best LOL.

also when saving out PNG there seems to be a color shift?

I believe you mean Photoshop> View> Proof Setup: Working CMYK

In which case [I] would "Soft Proof" in "Windows RGB" which is based on sRGB as previously pointed out.

If you see any big shift in Windows RGB, be sure to:

1) Photoshop> Edit> Convert to Profile: sRGB

If that doesn’t fix the problem,

2) Profiling your monitor in System Preferences> Displays> Color: Calibrate to 2.2 gamma/6500 is the reccommemded solution.

If you see an intense saturation in MonitorRGB, you are likely using a wide-gamut monitor (search for more about this color issue on Mac OSX)…
