I think that I got something on the sensor of my D70 when I changed lenses and now have about 100 vacation pictures with a nasty spot. With that many images to touch up, I am looking for a quick method for patching those areas.

The spot is a dark fuzzy blob close to the middle and about 50 to 75 pixels across, so it is pretty obnoxious. In many cases, it falls on rocks, ice, water or trees with a linear pattern so there is a possibility of repeating a pattern from somewhere else in the image.

The Pattern Stamp tool seems like the right tool but I am having trouble getting the alignment right. Is there any way to either get some automated help with the alignment or to do a smart blending around the edges?

I am using Photoshop Elements v2.0 pn a Mac running OS X 10.3 if that makes any difference.
