Image Resolution

My Leica DMR takes DNG images. When I download the DNG, convert to tif, open the tif image and select Image Size, the default resolution is 240 px/in.

My understanding is that I can reduce resolution if needed, but increasing resolution would be counter productive.

Now my print person is asking me for 300 px/in images. I don’t think I can provide those. Or can I?

Hope this question is clear.

Set the resolution to 300 ppi without resampling

….and if your camera is not producing an image size sufficient to support the desired print size at 300ppi, then you will need to enable resampling and set the document dimensions to the desired size as well. If you’re not having to increase the image size substantially, you should still be able to obtain a high quality image even when resampling is needed. What the reasonable limits are to upsampling without noticeable image degradation, I’m not sure, but much of that depends upon your final print use as well…type of printer, image viewing distance, etc.
