Marie,
I wonder….could it be so simple as you were truly searching for "photoshOp.exe"? If I remember correctly, PS7 was still using the name "photoshp.exe" (no "o" in shop), whereas CS and CS2 spelled it out fully. That said, it should be found in the list of choices for "Open With", but if not then just browse to it instead. The default location should be something like C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 7\photoshp.exe if you didn’t change it during the install.
Daryl
Daryl, no .exe without an "o". What I get is this: PHOTOSHP.EXE-023F641E.pf C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch 37 kb PF FIle
Can’t find that file when I look for it in WINDOWS.
Photoshop program in my folder does not list any .exe. It was reinstalled with PS5 first, and then followed w/Ps7.
PS7 is not in C/Program FIles and that’s where I’m trying to put it.
It is hopeless? ……………..mm
Hello Marie,
I’m not sure what to tell you, but if you do not find PHOTOSHP.EXE in an appropriate C:\Program Files\ subfolder, then it truly sounds as though Photoshop did not install correctly for you. In fact, unless you mistakenly installed PS7 to the same folder as PS5, you should have two Photoshop installations. That is, you should never install one version of Photoshop over another by installing to the same location. Instead, each should be installed to is own unique location as is the default. Photoshop is designed to permit multiple versions to be installed so that while you are learning the newer version, you can continue to work in the older version if need be.
If you can find both PS5 and PS7 in your Add/Remove Programs list, I suggest you try seeing if both can be uninstalled. Then, and only if you do not really plan to use PS5, run your PS7 installation again. In the process of doing so, you should get prompted to locate where a prior version of PS was installed or to insert a prior versoion’s installation CD so that a validation check can be done. At that point, insert your PS5 CD until the validation is accomplished and the PS7 installer resumes. When finished, you should have a good PS7 installation. If not, I’m clueless as to why.
Regards,
Daryl
the fact you found that entry in the "prefectch" folder (assuming it was a recent entry) means Photoshop is there.
Did you ask Explorer to include hidden files in the search?
Hi Chris—no, I didn’t include hidden files in the search and will try that.
Daryl–I thought I HAD to install PS5 first because that’s the "proof" and has the required installation number. I didn’t think I could just reinstall with PS 7 alone….Can I?
Thanks much you guys……m,
Yes, just have the CD ready. Put it in and remove it when prompted.
Once you’re up to speed again, don’t forget to download the 7.0.1 update.
