Hello
I`m new over here, but I have a problem:
somebody who is using PS CS2 on a Windows XP SP2, sais that he can increase the size of a picture, for using it in a bigger wallpaper size. For example, let`s pretend that I have a picture of 800×600 px, he said that is possible to enlarge it at 2400×1800 px without any obvious lost of acuaracy.
I want to know if it is possible, as far as I know, it isn`t.

Thank you for any answer you may come with.

PS will interpolate the pixels that get added, you don’t lose information, but you can’t create details that aren’t there. But a file that is at the higher resolution to begin with will show more detail.

See this example:

The image on the left is a high res scan, the one on the right wass dowsampled and upsampled back to the original resolution.

cameleonD,

There is a comparative review of image upsamplers at America’s Wonderlands < http://www.americaswonderlands.com/digital_photo_interpolati on.htm>. In my opinion, the two best performers are PhotoZoom Pro 2 < http://www.benvista.com/main/content/content.php?page=ourpro ducts&section=photozoompro_1> and Genuine Fractals Print Pro <http://www.ononesoftware.com/detail.php?prodLine_id=7>.

I have used Genuine Fractals Print Pro for many years with consistently good results. PhotoZoom Pro 2 is quite competitive, but in head-to-head tests of its demo against my Genuine Fractals, the only difference I see is that PhotoZoom Pro 2 has an "artificial detail" feature that can be helpful, but I can get comparable results by adding artificial grain to the results from my Genuine Fractals.

I am keeping an eye on PhotoZoom because it has been improving faster than Genuine Fractals, whose quality of upsampling hasn’t improved in the last several version upgrades, while PhotoZoom continues to improve. If this trend continues, PhotoZoom may succeed in besting Genuine Fractals. You can get good results with either product at this time. If you have a lot of money to spend, get both. But first, download their demos and test them for yourself.
