After using Magic Wand in Photoshop Version 7 to separate an area from the white background, which I assume is oart of the same layer. I would like to take the defined area without a background to use as a logo. How do I do this ????

Select the background and then right-click and select "select inverse" and copy to a new layer.

You cannot remove the white unless you double click on the background layer (in order to make it fully editable).

As for using the file as a logo, how you maintain the transparency depends on what useage you are going to put it to and what programs you might want to import the file into. Saving as an .eps file with a clipping path would probably work for print, whereas if you want it for web use you’ll probably want .png or gif.

Charles

Do you want the "removed" background to be transparent? If so, you need to rename the background layer to unlock it as background layers do not support transparency. Just alt + double click on the layer in the layers palette to rename it layer 0

Once you have selected the white with the magic wand, just hit the delete key.
