Once Photoshop CS2 has started, go to Help > Updates… and adjust your preferences.
Disabled auto update, and then it should go away, you may want to open adobe bridge, and let it check for updates, and see if your problem goes away.
I found a thread about this problem at www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331634.html and ran the cacls and gave the needed permissions, but when I tried to run the common files installer, I came to a window where files were being copied, and a new window popped up asking me to install the disk#1. Well, the disk was already in the drive and clicking OK did nothing! I only had the option to cancel. How do I disable auto update? I should have mentioned this is PS CS2.
HELP>UPDATES>CHECK_FOR_UPDATES>PREFERENCES
Let’s start again…
When I click HELP>UPDATES I automatically get the error message "Can’t start auto update. Please reinstall…" SO, I can’t even get to a screen to reset preferences.
Providing you installed PSCS2 in its default directory, there is no need to uninstall PS7. They can co-exist happily and in fact there is always some comfort knowing your previous version is available should you need it.
the error message "Can’t start auto update. Please reinstall…"
Did you try reinstalling? It’s quick and painless.
I loaded CS2-Education version on my computer with previous version PS7.0.
You could have saved yourself a few quid/bucks here. Upgrading PS7 to CS2 would have cost about $/£140 which is less than the full purchase price of the Edu version.
Chris.
Tried re-installing 3 times to no avail. Oh,and I tried several of the items on the welcome screen and they don’t work either…"cannot find file" message. To top it off, I was disconnected from the phone support service twice after waits of 20 mins. each!! I made sure my firewall and anti-virus programs and all background programs were disabled. This one has me stumped.
