How set in stone is that "XP or Vista" requirement for Windows? Will it (or should it) run under Windows 2000 SP4?

seems to confirm that Photoshop CS3 will be released in at least a few different versions.

I’m hoping the splash screen is temporary.

The UI surprises me a bit, as I assumed it would more or less be exactly like the Adobe Production Studio apps.

The Official Press Release < http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pressreleases/2006 12/121406Photoshop.html> is available. There’s also a new new book by Martin Evening < http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pressreleases/2006 12/121406Photoshop.html> about PSCS3, including a chapter describing what’s new < http://www.photoshopforphotographers.com/pscs2/download/what snewinPSCS3.pdf> in CS3. And here’s a link to more information <http://www.photoshopcafe.com/cs3/> about it.

(Mathias beat me on the press release.)

I’ve read the following a couple of times now…

This is an exciting time for the Mac, and Adobe wanted to ease the move to new Intel-based systems with a preview release of Photoshop CS3,” said John Loiacono, senior vice president of Creative Solutions Business Unit at Adobe. “We didn’t want to leave Windows customers out of the party, so the beta is available to everyone in the creative industry’s most passionate user community — no matter what their platform choice.

I’m not sure what to make of it. Exciting time for Mac? We didn’t want to leave windows customer out?

Curious.

Yeah, its an exciting time for Mac – they’ve finally moved to PC processors!

John Nack is the product manager for Photoshop. His blog has a tonne of good links to get started on the public beta: <http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/> (some of you knew, some of you didnt).

The reference is the fact that CS3 is a univeral app. There’s plenty of issues on the Mac side right now with rosetta not being nearly as good at emulating PPC as it needs to be.

< http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=labs%5F photoshop> this is the link to the download page. Note that its a big download.

You have to sign in with your Adobe ID.

You’ll need a CS2 serial to use the beta for more than 2 days.

Incomplete install for me!

I get component install failed on the following three items: – Photoshop CS3
– Adobe Anchor Services CS3
– Adobe Bridge CS3

Though I am a member of the Fireworks beta and I can confirm that Bridge CS3 works based on the install from Fireworks beta.

Any suggestions?

My first suggestion would be to not discuss any other beta programs in a public forum.

I just bought CS2 (about 2 weeks ago). I wonder if I will get a break if I want to upgrade to CS3 when it is released?

hi rafael, I doubt it. there was always a limit. i just missed it once with adobe premire v6 when i bought an adobe bundle (media creator or something like that). i THINK the limit was you had to have bought hte program within 30 days of release to qualify for a free upgrade, but it might have been as little as 2 weeks. someone else may remember more exactly.

No. This is covered in the CS3 beta FAQ. CS3 is still many months from release.

As for the splash screen art, it has been confirmed by John Nack that it is final. They are going with a periodic table of elements theme for CS3.

Apparently this is what the Macromedia creative types have brought to the table. I rather prefer the beautiful white panels with colored x-ray art from CS2.

End of May apparently which is the end of Adobe’s 2nd fiscal quarter.

One of the most important Apps in the world, one of the weakest shortcut systems in existence. Hundreds of great features behind a maze of menu’s and crtl-alt-shifts.

Single-Key custom keyboard shortcuts need to be implemented (As in the excellent InDesign system).

Why is it that we need to press the crtl modifier when defining keyboard shortcuts to utilize the unused numpad keys or any other key?! At least implement Single-Key numpad shortcuts (Illustrator is the same way unfortunately)

Photoshop Actions need the option to be mapped to the Numpad Keys instead of just F2 thru F12, or ideally to any key (including F1, I don’t need ‘Photoshop Help’ to eliminate all the hotkey combinations of F1). Why Limit us when accessing actions are so neccessarry?

I use InDesign as much as photoshop and the keyboard customization is exhaustive. You can define ANYTHING (menu items, tools, scripts, and any function) to use a Single-Keypress in different contexts. This has boosted my productivity immensely. It is hard to fathom why InDesign’s sister products have failed to implement it’s obviously superior system.

With photoshop’s branching menus and features always growing, users need single-press keys to access these great new features customized around the way that we work. I should be able to designate the letter "N" to create a new layer instead of selecting the "Note Tool" which is not in my workflow. Now I know that the hard-coded Crtl-Shift-N may seem to some as easy but I want to make the experience easier. Indesign has the system, why not The Shop?

Final Note:

Computer Interfaces are Visual and Physical, you’ve improved the Visual interface tremendously, please improve the physical interface so that i’m interacting transparently with the program. The keyboard has 102 keys, give them some attention please. I will get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome by making round trips to the menu’s in photoshop because of it’s lack of a refined shortcut system (custom menu’s don’t cut it).

My Numpad is crying out to be touched with 16 Single-Key shortcuts that create Curves adjustment layers, run actions and scripts, initiate filter dialogs, run menu items, etc

One of the most important Apps in the world, one of the weakest shortcut systems in existence. Hundreds of great features behind a maze of menu’s and crtl-alt-shifts.

someone hear my CRY! Others who feel the same way please push this concept up the chain to Chizen’s Ears

Well, a beta release is not exactly the time to start pushing for new features. Unless you mean you want them for the next version, in which case you should be posting to the new features area.
