I had a thread on this topic several months ago.

Leopard was supposed to resolve the OS X buffering issue that caused the pauses while brushing. As of 10.5.2, according to feedback from this forum, that apparently was not true. Does anyone know if buffering works correctly in 10.5.4 now?

Chris I recently purchased a 2008 mac pro that is running 10.5.4 with 12gigs of ram. Without having the force vm buffering or bigger tiles enabled my system is running without any pauses while painting, cloning, etc.

The only issue i’ve found is changing the brush size with the bracket keys. If you have the info box active it is slowing the brush size change down.

In my limited testing it appears that the best performance is still with DisableVMBuffering enabled.
