Dear Chris, buko, James, & Friends

I don’t know whose fault it is, but I’ve found that when I disable the TWAIN plug-in, I don’t get the error.

I’m on a 3GHz Mac Pro with 9GB of memory running Photoshop 10.0.1 on OS X 10.5.4.

I realize this is a "me, too" post, but I wanted to confirm that the suggested solution works for "me, too."

It is apparently Epson’s fault because, according to Chris Cox, their Drivers are "buggy"; not written to the approved standards; and therefore conflict with Photoshop’s TWAIN.plug-in.

Removing the TWAIN.plug-in (which is superfluous anyway) solves the problem.

This issue goes back many years and Epson have never resolved it.
