I finally need to upgrade my home computer as I was attempting to work with Premiere Elements and found out you can blow up a G450 Maxtrox card by trying to pump video through it.

I got an ATI Radeon 512 X1600 Pro video card cheap on Black Friday, and was wondering if anyone has had any problems with the CrossFire set up? Newegg has a couple of Crossfire motherboards (both Abit and Asus) in my price range.

Thanks!

Is that the AGP card? I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Something went severely wrong…smell of ozone and poof…no more video card!

I don’t know if it was Premiere Elements or not…(but the card is almost 5 years old… it is time!

Not likely due to pumping video. This is not like pumping iron!

If the processor on the video card is marginal, it can be stressed to the point of crashing, but the smell of whatever suggests a major component breakdown.

Can the card and buy another, unless it’s waranteed. I would also have the power supply voltages checked in case it’s what’s marginal.

Personally, I have no experience with it, but am supremely curious if it lives up to the hype. Why are you considering that board?

I thought Crossfire was for Gaming and 3D.

Dual GPUs won’t help Photoshop or Premiere Elements.

Right John; that’s why I was asking.

It’s dirt cheap on newegg.com ($109.00) and it’s an abit board…I haven’t had much luck with Asus boards…

Sorry about the slow response…finals week hell is upon us!

I have a 128MB PCI-E ATI FIREGL V3100 which performs beautifully with both those programs (CS2 and PE 2.0).

It might be advisable to get 256MB to cope with developments next year.

Good advice, especially if Vista is in your plans.

Looks like no heatsink grease on that chip, dave. Or the heatsink was not securely fastened down.
