Choices for File Saves: jpeg or tiff?

I plan to save a series of slides and then, with Roxio CD/DVD Creator, make a VCD (or would SVCD be better?) for showing on a DVD recorder. Shall I save the edited slides as jpegs? or tiffs? and why?
