When I save an image in photoshop CS and it is a "work in progress" I save it as a PSD file, but when I reopen the file, the history and the layers are flattened. I have set my preferences to "save layers" What am I doing wrong.

At the bottom of the save as dialog is a checkbox,- save layers. do you also have that checked?

And BTW, the history not being saved is normal.

Yes, I have "save layers" box checked in my preferences. As a side note, when I reopen the same file in PS Elements 4, I do see and can work with the layers. Is there a setting in "open" or open as?

I was talking about this checkbox and not the preferences. not sure why you can open it in the other though.

Ok, I think that I am doing that,

How do I get the "Layer Palette" Open?

Sorry, know that is a lame question, but I have been looking in the history palette and seeing the layer but not the Layer Palette with the eyes.

Opps found it. Went to Reset Palettes and up it came.

Thank you for your help.
