I am fairly new to PS and am hoping someone can help me with the following:

1. Does the resolution of an image copied to a destination image always become the resolution of the destination image?

2. If so, how does this affect the physical dimensions of the image being copied to the destination image?

3. Is there a formula to determine how changing the resolution of an image will affect its physical dimensions?

Thanks for any help!!!

Number of pixels divided by the resolution in pixels-per-inch = physical size.

Examples:3000px / 300ppi = 10 inches
3000px / 100ppi = 30 inches
3000px / 72ppi = 41.67 inches

Think pixel dimensions not pixels/dots per inch
Example, you have an image that is 300 pixels x 300 pixels. In an image that is 300 pixels per inch your 300×300 will be 1"x 1" In an image that is 100 pixels per inch your 300×300 will be 3"x 3"

Phos you be quicker on the draw as usual. 🙂

And when you copy or drag an image to another canvas, it will remain the same size in pixels, regardless of what the dimensions of the two images are in inches, cm, or furlongs. For example, Image #1 is 2000 x 3000 pixels and is tagged as 300 ppi, so its dimensions are 6.67 in x 10 in; Image 2 is 720 x 1080 pixels and is tagged as 72 ppi, so its dimensions are 10 in x 15 in. If you are thinking in inches, you will think image #1 is smaller than image #2, but when you try dragging #1 on top of #2 you find that #1 doesn’t even completely fit. That’s because the image has more pixels than #2; when it’s moved into a canvas with a resolution of 72 ppi, #1 suddenly becomes 27.78 in x 41.67 in and won’t fit in the canvas.
