hi there,
I am using adobe photoshop CS and everything in the programme seems to work fine until I save an image for web!

For example.
If I am working on a 300×400 image at 72dpi, when I come to save for web and preview in browser (internet explorer 7) the image becomes larger in size (on the screen not in kb) and distorts. Like if you take and image off the net and enlarge it.

Ive checked all my save for web settings and everything seems to work.

I then tried saving it for web, inserting the image into a html file in dreamweaver and the previewing in browser and the same problem with the image distorting and becoming larger in size happened!

Also if I upload the image to the internet and view in browser same problem exists.

Any ideas? im completely lost.

P.S. working on a dell laptop with screen resolution 1680 x 1050

What happens if you only do a save as?

Are you sure it is not your HTML code that is re-sizing the image?

same thing happens with save as..

if it was the HTML code, how do I check that and fix it?

Look for something similar to the following in the HTML code for the page the image is being displayed on. <img src=http://www.you-site.com/images/your-image.jpg width=123px height=123px/>See those width and height values? These should be the exact same as the values for the width and height dimensions as reported in Photoshop, ImageReady or elsewhere.

Those width and height attributes—when coded into an img src link—serve only to tell the browser how big to display an image, and do nothing to affect the file size or download time.

Say you have a 300kb image that is 500px wide × 500px high.

It doesn’t matter if you code the height and width attributes to 100px &times 100px, or 5000px × 5000px, the browser will still be downloading a 300kb image file. The difference those attributes make is that they tell the browser how big the image is to be displayed.

If there are no width or height attributes specified, the image will display at its native pixel dimensions.

Can you provide a link to an example image?

Try viewing in a different browser.

The image works fine in mozilla firefox, ive checked the html code and the dimensions are the same as those I intended but the image is still coming up larger.

A sample image

In my browser around the text it is all distorted and the image is larger on the screen than at 100% on my photoshops screen and save for web screen.

any ideas?

I don’t think you can link directly to MySpace images.

(I checked the source code for that post).

Are you sure that the CSS in your MySpace site isn’t determining the size for the image?

This is getting really complicated, because there are so many different factors involved.

Is nothing distorted then? surely that means its got to be something to do with my browser settings?

Take a screenshot of what you’re seeing, and host it at <http://www.pixentral.com>.

Copy ALL of the HTML code in the box below the image (ignore the IMG code) after it uploads, then paste that code in a reply here.

I pasted the screenshot into paintshop pro and saved from that and then in my browser that image has enlarged..dont know what your seeing.

I don’t know what to tell you, other than if it looks correct in Firefox, then it has to be some setting in Internet Exploder that’s mucking it up.

Since I don’t use I.E., I can’t tell you where to look. Maybe you can ditch you I.E. prefs or somehow set everything back to default?

Rather than Print Screen on its own try ALT+Print Screen.

This will save a copy of the active window rather than a full screen image.

OK…Now that you have that sorted, I have one other observation:

If this is an image you made, are you sure that "Carnagie" is spelled the way it should be? (BTW…I see that <http://www.myspace.com/gunfightatcarnagiehall> has been deleted, but that the band has another page where it seems to be spelled the standard way: <http://www.myspace.com/gunfightatcarnegiehall> )

Bah…never mind. I’m just picky like that.
