Why does PSCS want to rasterise instead of opening a PSCS2EPS from Windows?

I have received some Photoshop CS2 eps files from Windows2007. These are 50-60 meg letter size cmyk files with live text somehow originating in Illustrator. The person who created these is primarily a web designer, and not available at the moment.

When I try to open these in Photoshop CS on OS 10.3.9, Photoshop wants to rasterize them at 300 dpi instead of just opening them. If instead, I distill them, and view them in acrobat, I can see that the text is fine and not rasterised.

By checking the document properties of the distilled pdfs, I can confirm that they were indeed Photoshop 9 files. Can someone explain why my Photoshop 8 does not just open them?

Thanks,

Al Ferrari

Becasue they have vector information.

EpS files with vector information must be rasterized, that’s just the way it is. Have the perosn give you PSDs instead.

But if You want the picture without the text there is the possibility of distilling a pdf from the eps (without resizing and without compression) and then either exporting the pictures from acrobat or alt-double-clicking them with the object-touch-up-tool in acrobat (whereupon they should open in psd).

Being as »alt« is printed on those keys I like consider them the alt-keys though.

christoph,

Thank you for your #3 post. But »alt« is not printed on any of the keys on my mac keyboard.

I think it is on the newer keyboards.

Alt is usually associated with Windoze that is why I made the comment I did, as many Mac users have older keyboards like Al.

When in Mac country use terms that Mac users are familiar with.

I think it is on the newer keyboards.

In tiny, practically unreadable letters. :/

Whenever I read "Alt", I assume it’s a Windoze post and skip it.

Al

It is printed on the Option key of the iBook I’m typing this on, in small print.
