Is there any good "free" interactive step-by-step tutorials on the web; or what book would you recommend buying to give me the best jump start on getting the most out of this program? Thanks, I am eager to learn but need some guidance.

Try Jay Arraich’s site … the tutorials are really good and they will help you. Tutorials are a good way to learn and I find that to start with they are more friendly than just reading a book … plus you actually "make" something nice.

Try <http://www.myjanee.com>. It has several tutorials for doing things in elements. There’s lots of good sites out there. You just have to limit your search terms to weed out the field.
