Creating Textures from scanned items

Hi! I am trying to figure out how to create a felt texture by scanning a piece of felt and then using it as a texture in PS CS. Can someone please tell me how I would do this?

You would probably get a better "texture" by photographing said felt using a hard, directional, light and no reflectors.
