Is there a way in PS (or InDesign / Illustrator) to determine the size of a shape?

There is an image (a map) containing e.g. glaciers or lakes. I would like to know the exact size of these, and provided I know the area 1 sqmm or 1 pixel makes up, I could draw a shape over those places and easily know tell how large the place is, if it would be possible to read how many pixels this shape consists of.

Is there any possibilities to easily find this out?

The histogram shows no pixelcount neither as vectorshape nor as rasterized layer. At least as far as I can see. Could you specify?

The histogram palette

IIRC, it was introduced in Photoshop CS

Thanks alot. Found it now, but it took some time. And worked only after pressing the "refresh" button.
